Have you gotten into scrapbooking yet?
It's a lovely way to preserve your most precious memories and histories. Digital Scrapbooking is also cost effective. After the initial purchase of your software, supplies are much more inexpensive and can be used again, and again.
the most commonly used programs are Paint Shop Pro (PSP) which you can get a trial version of here. this is a popular program and runs around $65.00. PS Elements is another popular one which runs around $80.00 and you can get a trial version of it here. If you are a designer, or a serious scrapbooker you might want to invest in Photoshop CS4 which is what I use. It and runs around $700.00, and you can find it here (there is not trial version of this that I know of). There are tons of tutorials online to help you learn these programs.
Scrapbooking has been around for several hundred years, but it has been the last 20 or so that folks have embraced it in a big way, and now with computers, the possibilites for scrapbooking have been greatly enhanced.
Scrapping is a deeply personal venture. It's a way to preserve memories. When you do a scrapbook, there is no right or wrong way - it's personal, it's history, it's art, it's about YOU.
Scrapbooks can include almost anything - photographs, drawings, memoirs, quotes, poetry, newspaper/magazine articles, recipes, greeting cards, and just about anything else that would have some personal meaning to you. They are decorated with any variety of elements such as buttons, string, ribbon, and so forth. You also add text elements to the scrapbook pages, such as poems, sayings, journaling, titles.
There are several ways folks do scrapping these days:
1.
You can just create it with paper and real 3D elements as a page to be included in a book.
2.
You can use computer graphics programs to create items, which can then be printed out and used in the scrapbook.
3.
You can create the entire scrapbook on the computer, just for digital use (e.g., posting it to your webpage, sending my email, sharing with family, and friends, etc).
4.
A combination of these methods.
What Is Digital Scrapbooking?
Digital scrapbooking is using your computer and software programs to save the memories for future generations. It will stretch your creativity as you will be able to do more things with your digital scrapbook than you were with your traditional scrapbook .
Digital scrapbooking isn't much different than regular scrapbooking. It has the same basic foundation: you want to preserve the memories. It's in the 'how' that digital scrapbooking differs from regular scrapbooking.
Instead of using paper photos, paper and other products to make the scrapbooks, digital scrapbooker's use the computer, photo software, and digital scrapbooking kits.
A digital scrapbooking page is made in a photo editing software program such as Paint Shop Pro, or Photo shop to name a few. Quite the same way a scrapbooking layout is made.
You choose the scrapbooking background, add photos, embellishments, and then journal.
The added benefits of digital scrapbooking are the creative options you'll have with your photo software.
5 Things to remember When Saving your Digital Layouts
1.
Always save your layout in the native form of your digital scrapbooking program. This is important if you ever want to go back and change something on the layout. It will also allow you to save the layout in any number of formats without losing resolution.
2.
When you want to print out your layout you will need to save it as a JPEG or JPG with a 300 dpi.
3.
Always be sure to merge your files if you are saving them to be printed. If you print them before merging and saving you can end up with two different results.
4.
Always save a back up copy of your work on an external hard drive or a cd. You don't want to loose all of your layouts or supplies because you had a hard drive crash. I like to use a jump drive for this.
5.
If you would like to go from one digital program to another, the best way to save your layout would be to export it as a png after you save it in your program's native format. Then you have the best of both worlds without losing any resolution.
